I am a New York/Baltimore based-new media artist. My work displays 2-dimensional art, 3-dimensional art, physical computing, soft circuit, installation, and interactive art. This creativity also demonstrates self-portraits, emotional expressions, and human connection. I aim to focus on interactive healing effects between people on a variety of projects. I believe my art is expressed in everything I touch. As my portfolio illustrates, my passion for art is interdisciplinary and expressed across diverse media. My artworks have been accepted in various art galleries and art fairs including School 33 Art Center 2018 in Baltimore and Governor’s Island Art Fair 2016 in New York. My project, Revealuxion has received critical praise and acclaim, winning Best in Class at Maker Faire 2015 and is featured in The New York Times article “Women in the World.” I received Master of Fine Arts degree in Design and Technology at Parsons School of Design in May, 2015.Featured Work

Revealuxion: Designing Multiplicity - Performance & Screening 2015

Revealuxion is a personal, artistic performance using an experimental, interactive, wearable garment that is connected to my brainwaves. My concept concentrates on self-esteem, self-portrait, aesthetic emotions, and human connection. I express my internal feelings and emotions in front of audiences through the garment, which means I will reveal my true self instead of a version of myself that is fake, sealed up, or hidden behind technology. Ultimately, I aim to find ways to reach catharsis, with spectators, through empathetic engagement.

Revealuxion is a video installation using the shapes and mechanisms inspired by cocoons and marionettes. She views herself as a young butterfly, through the reflection of chrysalis as a representation of her alter ego, she expresses suffering and patience that is embedded in her artwork.

Revealuxion, a multi-media installation by Kieun Kim, utilizes mechanisms and forms inspired by butterfly chrysalides and stringed marionette hands. With this work, Kim envisions herself through the reflection of a chrysalis — a metaphor which embodies the suffering and vulnerability, as well as the patience and self-determination required for periods of intense personal growth. For the artist, the process of making and presenting Revealuxion to viewers is an exercise in unapologetically embracing and revealing the genuine self, forgoing the propensity to put forth inauthentic versions of ourselves to the people we encounter. The patience inherent with this work is reflected in the details — which feature kaleidoscopic projections, laser cut acrylic, articulated wooden hands, and hundreds of yards of carefully stretched, illuminated cotton string.

Revealuxion: My Journey of Evolution 2015
Revealuxion is a version of video art composed of the shapes and mechanisms inspired by cocoons and marionettes. She views herself as a young butterfly, through the reflection of chrysalis as a representation of her alter ego, she expresses suffering and patience that is embedded in her artwork.
Initially, Revealuxion was an experimental garment for performance, which uses LED lights connected to brainwaves as a mental representation and finger movements as a physical representation. The title came from a combination of Reveal and Lux. She designed organic shapes by fragile acrylic materials like her concept. To extend journey of imagination, she installed exhibitions of a video projector with white threads and wooden hands at Solo Exhibition, NY, U.S.A. 2016, Governors Island Art Fair, NY, U.S.A. 2016, and School 33 Art Center, MD, U.S.A. 2018. The video symbolizes a dynamic hole presenting a struggled butterfly in the chrysalis. She integrates all her documentary videos into the kaleidoscope effects. Audiences would feel empathy, sympathy and healing through her solitary journey.Year: 2015
