My work seeks to create safe places driven by love and grace. Split between representational work and abstract pieces, my paintings unpack relationships between humanness and our living natural world. My paintings become visual expressions of a poem, a song or a prayer — the colorful manifestation of still moments.

Where I grew up has a particularly rich impact on the subject matter of my representational paintings. The lifestyle in my hometown is slower, the landscape seems to set still both time and people. In a day and age that feels like we are rushing through our days and forgetting to be present, I want to remind us of a place where "rush" doesn't exist - there is only the fields, the farm, and the creeks.

My entire painting practice is about paying attention to small still moments. When I'm painting, i'm listening. How are the colors interacting? what are they saying and why?

The mission of my work is to yield moments for everyone to feel seen, comforted and filled with wonder.

About the Artist

Lauren Brumbach Ebersole is a professional fine artist and graphic designer who works consistently in the fine art and freelance markets.  Lauren knew at a very young age that her life would be one lived in wonder.  She grew up in a sleepy little farm town where time moves a little slower, dinner is always at 5:00 and phrases like “wie geht’s” and “mach’s gut” aren’t foreign. The inherent simplicity and appreciation for life fuels her desire to create. In 2015, Lauren moved to Philadelphia, PA where she completed her Master’s Degree in Museum Exhibition Planning + Design from the University of the Arts. In 2014, Lauren received her Bachelor’s Degree in Art and Art History with a focus in painting from Lebanon Valley College. During this time, she spent five months abroad studying in Perugia, Italy. Her study of architectural textures and the significant impact art can have on culture, history and society continues to influence her body of work.  Throughout her graduate education, Lauren studied under influential instructors whose ability to look at the world upside down and marvel at its possibility evolved her own perspective and transformed her art practice.  It is her goal to share the positive impact of art and design on the human spirit ­— be that through dynamic branding, exhibitions or conversations over coffee. Lauren’s work has been shown in global magazines as well as group and solo shows across the US.  including, Lansing, MI and the Washington, DC metro area. Lauren lives and works in Maryland.

Over the last 30 years, I’ve watched this farm give itself back to nature — to time. Every year the colors of her walls fade further into grey as the land around her bursts with a myriad of green. It’s an admirable thing, giving yourself to the elements and to time. You show wear and tear, you show weathering but never quite withering. Our flourish, our color, our life gradually passes on to those we encounter over time. Making everything around us bright and alive. These buildings haven’t been overtaken by time, the vines don’t diminish them. I find incredible comfort in places like this. Places otherwise forgotten. I find them in perfect balance. Moments at peace.
Chickens are simple animals and yet filled with complex textures. From each brilliantly lit feather to each glint in their not-so-vacant eyes, these common creatures proved exciting and intriguing to study. My favorite thing about these chickens was how they would follow my dad around our backyard like little lost puppies. They knew he meant food. Painting them was a rich dive into orange, reds, warm brown. They’re just chickens but looking closer they’re also a beautiful and mesmerizing array of vibrant color.
Was it a tree? Was is a meadow of wildflowers? Was it a glint of the fireflies or a star? With what field or flower did you dream your first backyard dream? For me, it was this view. These hills and this field always felt full of magic and wonder. It used to be the whole world to a very small me. I could look out into this space and dream impossible things as naturally as breathing air. After years of never giving her a second thought, I returned and she caught me off guard. Like a whisper, the Sun had reached its golden hour and I once again found myself looking at the beauty before me, dreaming. Can the dreams I dreamt 20 years ago still come true? Can oil and pigment tell stories that last? Can color comfort a hurting soul? And will I have a place in that magic? Or do the dreams we dreamt as children fade with the setting Sun? I look at this scene: wheat, though dying, stands tall; the hills that carried my imagination lift me out of doubt; and the Sun, bathing everything in gold and amber light, dancing with stray bits of grain, enchants me. I think dreams come alive in the golden light of a setting Sun.
This is the third and final piece in a progression of oil paint and resin paintings called "She Became a Bouquet." As the ending of a progression, this piece is our cliff-hanger, our almost ending— it asks questions and stimulates wonder. Through the course of this progression, the pieces gained confidence and vibrancy. As the leaving off point, "Tranquility with a Flair for Mystery" is the piece that has entirely come into its own being. This piece is unapologetic, it has little room for hesitancy. This piece pulls its viewers to depths its predecessors can't. It could be intimidating, it could also be comforting.
The second in the She Became a Bouquet progression — Emboldening. Embolden- to hearten, to encourage, to strengthen. This spirit of a budding bouquet mini series does just that. And this centerpiece embodies the journey of this progression. Her colors gain vibrancy, her movement more confident, more fierce, And yet, She retains her grace. Her softness and her delicacy are still found in the color transitions.
I was thinking about how much our circumstances effect our growth and development. Rolling with punches Adapting to change Reflection and re-evaluation Coffee conversations Shared music Vulnerability. Calming blues and empathetic greens create fields of understanding. Pops of gold and warm yellows adding excitement, life and positivity. Reinvention is not always about fixing short comings, sometimes it’s about being a work in progress. All your layers, the visible and invisible work together to create a beautiful and evolving portrait of you.
