About the Artist

ARTIST BIOGRAPHY Laurence E. Chandler - Abstract Expressionist P.O. Box 631, Lanham, MD 20706  PH: (301) 794-8480    E-mail: speaktolarry@aol.com website: www.laurencechandlerfineart.com A native of Baltimore, MD, I completed my high school arts program and was awarded a scholarship at the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, Maryland. Earning a BFA from the Maryland Institute, I continued my education at Coppin State University in Baltimore, earning a M.Ed. in Education. My work history consists of employment as a graphic designer for the Federal Government , freelance graphic designer, art gallery owner and currently a full-time, self-employed fine artist in Lanham, Maryland. ARTIST STATEMENT The hallmark of my style is the emphasis on my own improvisational techniques and expressionistic use of color, line, form, texture and space to represent things that are not visual such as emotion, sound, place, event or spiritual experience. My goal is to capture the essence of things unseen, and to draw viewers into my magic circle of creation, allowing them to experience something of the thrill of creating. The five images I have included in my entry consists of two separate series, "The Boogie-Woogie Series" and the "Rhythm Series". Though each series is comprised of a different color palette and design, they both represent in their own way, a unique solution that is both energetic and pensive.
