About the Artist
A cultural nomad with many roots I have lived my life at the intersection of cultures. Serendipity brought me to Rockville where I now live and create art. A multi-media artist with a background in photography and trained in classical oil painting, I have been moving into installation art over the last decade. I transform my photo-based images into interactive and immersive installations often environmental in scope. Playful, they unapologetically appeal to our sense of wonder and invite the viewer into a contemplative space. I am currently working on my "Four-Seasons" project, made of three elements: paintings, videos, and virtual reality. The exhibit showcases women of many ethnic groups and ages (from 14 to 90) and is meant to combat stereotypes and ageism in a way that is both subtle and powerful. It reminds us that nature and humans are intimately entwined and that we need to protect the earth, our mother. The digital paintings will be finished with embroidery, beads, and paint with custom-designed, decorated frames. Going from an analog world to a digital creation and back again to a finished piece that is tactile and embraces the traditions of generations past is an important part of this work. Artist's Statement
Personal and poetic, rhythmic and layered, my work merges the world of sound and vision - the internal with the external. It focuses on borderlines ... those mostly invisible boundaries that separate me from you, us from them, reality from fantasy, childhood from adulthood, life from death, us from the natural world. My installations are my attempt at immersing the viewer in my vision of the world. This is how I perceive reality and is my invitation to you to come see it through my eyes. The essence lies in the interaction between the viewer and the artwork, which is why all my installations are immersive and interactive. They are multi-sensory experiences, that engage with sound/touch and light. Playful, they unapologetically appeal to our sense of wonder. My digital paintings are divided into series which might at first glance seem disparate but all are anchored in the poetic use of color, the love of the natural world, and the unmasking of the unseen. Reflections and shadows are two perennial subject matters of mine. They are secret doors to our own inner reality. They show us sides of the world, and of ourselves which we tend to ignore. The dual vision of the world created by reflections, seeing simultaneously what is in front and what is behind, what is above and what is below, symbolizes in my work the merging of both the inner and outer realities and is something I have been striving for in my art.Featured Work

Early Autumn #7 in the "Four Seasons" series
Mixed media
2021
"Four Seasons" is a series that honors all women and our common mother the earth.
The paintings are digital collages of nature photographs taken over the last 20 years and portraits of women from around the world who personify the seasons, they can be thought of as Queens/Goddesses or Spirits. The circle is at the heart of this series and nature is at its center. The finished paintings are printed on canvas and finished with traditional handicrafts like embroidery, beads, and paint. The Custom-designed and painted frames are part of the work.
Going from an analog world to a digital creation and back again to a finished piece that is tactile and embraces the traditions of generations past is an important part of this work. The paintings showcase women of all ages from the maiden still unformed and searching for her power; the mother whose strength is the bounty of the earth to the grandmother who leads the tribe with her thoughtful advice.

Covenant Genesis
Mixed media - Pigment print on canvas finished with acrylic paint and interference powder
2023
"Covenant" is about the intersectionality and interdependence of nature, humanity, and technology. Our future depends on us honoring our roots, in preserving that from which we come. We might be the creators of the future, but unless we immerse ourselves in “the more than human world”, we will not survive. The sooner we honor the unwritten covenant that binds us all together from fungi to AI, the sooner we move towards harmony. We ignore and destroy the vast symbiotic system of which we are but a small part at our own peril.
