About the Artist
Native New Yorker Lisa Skibenes uses her affinity for sensuality and visual pleasure to create innovative, tactile art. Lisa moved to the Eastern Shore from New York in September 2013 and immediately immersed herself in the area’s rich artistic community. Since then, she has studied watercolor with local artists, Heather Crow and Sandy Alenko, and mosaic art with Candace Clough, Laura Rendlen, Kasia Polkowska, and Sue Stockman. Painstakingly hand cutting and grinding glass into perfect shapes, Lisa repurposes vintage windows and other substrates into dynamic works of art bursting with color. To offset the exacting nature of mosaics, Lisa also finds joy in creating art with alcohol inks on tile. Free flowing, fluid and swirling, like watercolors, the inks are manipulated into stunning and unusual abstracts as well as scenes from nature. Influenced by nature, all things mystical and whimsical, eroticism, glitter, and asymmetry, Lisa’s artwork is a pathway to pleasure and meditation for herself and a passage to an enchanted landscape, lightness of spirit, and joyfulness for the viewer. Lisa's work can be found at Candleberry Gallery in St. Michaels and The Green Phoenix, Bon Mojo and The Hatchery in Easton, Md. You can commission Lisa to create custom mosaic art to meet your wildest desires. With stained glass and other natural materials, including your own treasures, the possibilities for our collaborations are limitless. Lskibenes@me.com (914) 224-6212Featured Work
