About the Artist

Mark Phillips and Ryan Phillips are two snarky magicians, battling to become a self-proclaimed champion in "The Magic Duel Comedy Show." This show is full of seriously funny magic that will fool you. Badly. During the performance, audience members select the styles of magic the contestants must perform. The whole audience casts their votes electronically to determine the winner of the coveted 'Golden Wand.'  Funny, amazing, and interactive from start to finish, The Magic Duel has earned 5-star rankings on Yelp and TripAdvisor every year since 2015.

Artist's Statement

The Magic Duel Comedy Show is ideal for theaters up to 700 seats with minimal tech requirements and a 2 hour load-in, set-up.  For larger audiences, theaters with video projection equipment will maximize the visibility and entertainment value of the show. The show's humor is sometimes topical and/or political, as well as irreverent. While kids over 8 or 9 years old will enjoy the physical and sometimes slapstick antics of the performers, the show is designed for adult audiences and tastes.

Booking

Booking Price: $2,001-$5,000

The Magic Duel Comedy Show is available on weekdays with a single performance price of $4,000 or a box office split with a guarantee of $2,500.

The Magic Duel is a fun and easy show with minimal sound and lighting requirements. Please let us know right away (mark@themagicduel.com, 202-262-3617) if you have any questions, problems or concerns. We need:

a) Access to venue for 30 minute load in. Following load in, a 30 minute set up/sound check without audience. A Sound Technician, who can and will set sound levels must be present for the sound check. The performers are comfortable muting/unmuting themselves during the show. The Sound Technician will be running sound/music cues throughout the show from a laptop plugged into soundboard. The soundcues are easy, well laid out in a slideshow program for ease of use, and mostly for transitions between the performers entrances. One or two 10 minute run-throughs with the tech are usually more than adequate. If the venue is not providing a sound technician, please let us know ASAP.

b) Two wireless, Countryman headset (or if not available, lavalier) microphones, with Sennheiser, AKG, Shure or comparable quality transmitters/recievers. We can also provide our own countryman microphones to plug into your Sennheiser, AKG or Shure transmitter packs).

c) An adequate sound system with a minimum of 4 channels. Sound board must have an input for a laptop computer (mini jack).

d) A set of stairs downstage center into the audience to allow the performers to go into the audience and audience members to come up on stage during the show.

e) Wings or backstage area with direct access to stage on at least one side. If wings are unavailable, please contact us about our pop-up staging. Stage should be clean and cleared for load-in and set up.

f) Sufficient stage lighting with a general stage wash. Spotlights are not required.

g) Four bottles of spring water for the performers.

h) One chair on each side of the stage for use in the show. May be folding but should have a nice appearance and be light enough for the performers to carry on and off-stage when needed.
