About the Artist
I have been fascinated with photography ever since I got my first camera in 1972. With a limited budget at a young age, I worked with Kodak Instamatic, Polaroid and disc cameras until finally I was able to purchase my first SLR camera in 1984. As a mass communications major in college, I took photography classes and gained dark room experience. Since then, I have developed my craft and embraced the age of digital photography, taking photographs at various locations across the United States and Canada. In 2014, I started my own business, MJ Clingan Photography, and I have since enjoyed doing family portraits, wedding photos, and senior portraits.
My work has been featured at Fine Arts Company in Hagerstown, MD, Town Hall in Williamsport, MD, The Washington County Arts Council in Hagerstown, MD, the C&O Canal Trust in Hagerstown, Berkeley Art Works in Martinsburg, WV, Engine Room Art Space in Hagerstown, MD and the Cumberland Valley Photo Salon at the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts. I have been a regular winner of the C&O Canal Trust's monthly photo contest as well as had my works selected for their yearly calendar. My photos have been featured in the C&O Canal National Historical Park's calendar, and in 2017, one of my photographs was selected by the Department of the Interior for the front of the Park's Local Annual Pass.
