I am greatly inspired by the healing power of making art and i love helping adults to find and develop their own innate creativity through learning drawing and painting.

About the Artist

Mariana Kastrinakis is a mixed media artist and teacher.  She maintains an art studio and shows her work at the Stone Tower Studio & Gallery, 2nd floor, in the beautiful Glen Echo Park, in Glen Echo, Maryland.  Mariana first explored watercolors during a break from her work as a physician in the DC area in the 1990’s. Since then, her art has expanded to include other media, such as acrylics, collage, water media mono-printing as well as oils.    Mariana's work reflects her perceptions of unique textures, shapes and patterns that result from the play of light on natural or man-made elements in her environment.  Her art is a semi-abstract expression of those perceptions which aims to invite viewers’ own experiences to be projected onto her work.  She makes use of mono-printed and uniquely hand-embellished papers in her mixed media work.  She views art-making as a healing human endeavor open to all and loves to teach and excite others on her approach to art making.   Mariana is an award winning artist and has exhibited extensively in the DC metropolitan area.  Her work is included in collections in Maryland, DC, Virginia, New York, Massachusetts and abroad.  You can contact her at mkastrin@gmail.com and see her website at www.kastrinakisart.com     You are welcome to visit her if you are in Maryland and do consider taking one of her classes!

Artist's Statement

My work stems from my daily life perceptions and i love noticing and depicting the way light falls on natural and man-made objects, either in a representational or abstract style. I use a variety of media including watercolors, acrylics, oils and i particularly like combining media to test the limits of what each medium can do in my hands.  I am also very interested in figure painting and portraiture.
