The current series of ink flow paintings involves a process of randomly applying transparent inks to heavily soaked Arches watercolor paper with a rough surface. When the inks have dried I go in with a fine brush and pull out motion and imagery that emerges to my eye.

About the Artist

Mars Tokyo is the nom des'artes of Sally Mericle who resides in Baltimore City.            Mars Tokyo is largely a self-taught art prodigy who began making art as a small child and has not stopped since. Since the 2000's her work has included the first series of Miniature Theaters 2001-2007, the Coastline series of gouache paintings of endangered coastlines around the world 2009-2017, and the second series of Miniature Theaters 2018-present. Mars Tokyo's Theaters have been shown several times at the American Visionary Art Museum. Her current series of ink flow paintings began with 2023.
