Artist's Statement

This body of scenic design work reflects a recent evolution from a more realistic approach towards a sort of visual essentialism; attempting to capture the performative essence of the form and content of a play in simple, open-handed poetic visual gestures. The environment thus becomes both more and less important—allowing the action of the play to draw focus, but also fundamentally supporting it and providing resonant ways to frame each moment.
