About the Artist

I am a Maryland based photographer whose work has been exhibited in the mid-Atlantic region and local spaces including the Mansion At Strathmore, Cafritz Gallery, Edison Gallery, the Torpedo Factory, and Glenview Mansion.  My work is in private collections as well as public venues.  I was selected as a winner in the Glenview Mansion Library competition by Amy Cavanaugh-Royce, Director of the Maryland Art Place in Baltimore's Inner Harbor.  My series, Simplicity Within was described as “Reeds drenched in light dance, bow and leap across the stage with the drama of a Kennedy Center performance.” Prince George’s Sentinel 2/13/14  

Artist's Statement

Most of my early work, shooting in black and white film, was documentary, focusing on the people and street scenes in my hometown, New York City. I’ve now switched to digital photography and my much of my focus has shifted from documentary towards fine art. Fine art photography allows me to capture details of a subject from another perspective and reveal a world that usually goes undetected as we rush through life. My goal is to explore how I can best capture the essence of a subject, whether mysterious, moody or emotional, or perhaps only an imagined event. Most recently, I’ve begun to explore the power of digital manipulation to add an additional layer of complexity to an already complex image, and thus deepen the imaginative reaction evoked by an image. I haven’t, however, completely left my documentary roots. For example, my “Reclamation” series explores the power of nature to reclaim, and ultimately eliminate, man’s intrusions.
