About the Artist

Maryland Portrait Artist, Michele del Pilar is a classically trained artist working and residing in Annapolis.  She primarily works in oils with a broad concentration on Portraiture, Figurative and Still Life work.  She accepts commissions and teaches private art lessons in drawing and painting.

Artist's Statement

"When I set out to compose a new painting, one key element that draws me in is rhythm.  I think people may associate this term more commonly with music or dance movement, but for me it's a thing I'm always seeking visually.  In my work, it's what speaks of the liveliness and bustling activity of that which sits before me even in the quietest of compositions.  From my vantage point,  every design element performs in great orchestration and attends my willingness to seek a desired effect and capture it in paint.  What this means in simple terms is that a particular light quality, the light and shadow  patterns, the lines,  size and shapes of forms all tend to surreptitiously, link, coordinate and favor the composition at hand" ~ Michele del Pilar
