Drawing from her Javanese heritage and her upbringing amid the punk, Go-Go, and graffiti scenes of 1980s DC, MISS CHELOVE's work blends tools and methods of graffiti and street art with locally-rooted narratives, weaving iconic images from past and present into vibrant, empowering public artworks. Her practice amplifies the voices of women of color, Indigenous and underserved communities, issues affecting society and the environment, and the vibrant fashion/music/street subcultures that have fueled her since her teenage years. With over 25 years of creative experience, she approaches each project as a collaborative journey—transforming seeds of inspiration into dynamic works that resonate with the communities they inhabit.
