Nick Freeman

Photography, Visual / Media

I first picked up a camera in high school and used it as a way to document the evolution of my neighborhood in Baltimore, Hampden. For over twenty years, I have been continuing this project. I find that in an almost exclusively digital stage of photography, using film makes a statement of the unalterable nature that makes photography special. I can verify anything in print with the negative. Each image is special in that there is a limited number of frames that can be taken on a roll of film and as film becomes more difficult to find, every image carries that much more weight. I see my photographs as both autobiographical and documentary in nature. My experiences inform my photographic decisions and I put myself into places which challenge me to photograph me environment.
