About the Artist
Nina Jones is an inspiring self-taught artist who was born in Anchorage, Alaska and currently resides in Maryland. She is a full-time registered nurse at the National Institute of Health (NIH), but spends a lot of her free time in her art studio.
Nina’s artistic journey began in early childhood. “Drawing is her gift,” she said, and would often be asked by classmates to create something whenever artistic talent was needed. She was one of a few students in her high school chosen to paint a mural on their gym wall.
Nina’s focus shifted away from art when she went away to college to get her degree in nursing. Shortly after graduating, she met her husband and has raised four children. It wasn’t until her eldest daughter’s birthday celebration at a ‘Paint and Sip’ did she rekindle her passion for the arts; it was then that Nina remembered how much she enjoyed getting lost in her creativity.
Nina takes inspiration from the everyday things around her; but being an avid runner, she gets a lot of her innovation from just being in nature.
Nina’s style of painting can be described as a combination of abstract, impressionistic, and avant-garde. She specializes in mixed media and she has infinity towards African art. She loves to mix different textures to create something whimsical and unique.
