About the Artist
Strange Bedfellows: Contemporary Tragedy & The Commercial Determinants of Health (World Cinema Studies – Lifelong Learning Activity, 2025) Over the course of 12 weeks, participants will meet to discuss a series of international films and share their perspective through a lens of the commercial determinants of health. The discussion may take the form of reading prepared words, or by sharing an informal reflection with the group. Conversation is welcome. People may also choose to participate as a listener, or respond to another individual's share by uplifting or expanding upon their contribution. - For fans of: Book Clubs, Toastmasters, & The Criterion Collection. About the facilitator: Patrick Paulus is a community researcher and lifelong learner with deep roots in the international arts and culture field. His literary criticism has appeared on the social media pages of Columbia University Press, he has facilitated programs at the Yunshang film salon in Guangzhou, and has lectured about music history for the 'Japan Expert Insights' podcast in Tokyo. Patrick's contributions to the humanities have been recognized by the National Organization for Arts and Health (NOAH), and he was featured in the 'We, The Artists' statement presented at the United Nations COP28 conference in Dubai, highlighting his dedication to elevate the position of the storyteller in society. As an independent producer, he has been invited to Turkey, Argentina, Spain, Russia, Egypt, Norway, & Okinawa, among other locations. Patrick currently resides in Washington, D.C., where he conducts educational outreach programs in his free time. A family of public service: Patrick Paulus hails from a lineage with a considerable history of public service in Maryland. His grandfather was a Baltimore City Fire Department Battalion Chief, and his uncle, an advertising art director, was involved with giving Baltimore its nickname of “Charm City” on behalf of the mayor. His mother retired from the Baltimore County Department of Aging after a career as a patient advocate, while his father is remembered for his contributions as an editor & writer for the Johns Hopkins University Newspaper during the Vietnam War era.Booking
