About the Artist

About the Artist: Paige Friedeman attends shows and events under the name “Peijisan Art”.  She is a performing and visual artist and instructor from Hyattsville, Maryland. Peijisan currently lives in Gaithersburg, Maryland and has been participating in local art events and shows throughout the D.C. metropolitan area since 2002. Having previously studied the japanese language and culture for 6 years from age 14 until 20, it continues to influence her art to this day.  As and Art Studio & Sociology major at the University of Maryland, she focused on wood-cut relief printmaking and acrylic painting and collage while also experimenting in many other mediums. “Peijisan Art” has since developed into showing her drawings, paintings, mixed media collage work as well as hosting interactive origami installations, workshops or exhibits for event shows such as Artomatic, Figment DC, Wheaton Arts Parade & Festival, and Artscape Baltimore. Her work has been seen and sold through local galleries and she has also done several commissioned murals for personal homes as well as businesses. She hopes to start doing larger and larger scale events and exhibition installations where visitors can interact and contribute directly to the art and watch it grow. The intention is for the act and art of creating and making something out of paper to help inspire a collective-consciousness of accomplishment which results in a sense of contentment and joy for those participating or viewing the work.

Artist's Statement

My intention is to bring a little joy and exuberance out of the spaces my work resides in whether temporary or permanent. Though I depict various subject matters, I generally like to use bright colors and play with textures to create visual interest in a more contemporary approach. I want my work to remind the viewer of the fun, visual excitement a child experiences when absorbing this world for the first time. Each brush stroke, or gesture is made with this passion for life that I want to share. Whether it is from an acrylic painting, print, collage, photo or mural... I want the viewer leaving smiling with happy nostalgic memories of the awe of childhood, feeling magic and wonder.
