Rich Potter

About the Artist

As co-producer of Clown Cabaret, Rich Potter co-wrote and performed in Shakespearean sendup, Delusions of Grandeur (2012) and silent film noir comedy, The Heist (2014-2016). Three years as a RBBB Circus clown, dozens of years doing variety/comedy/juggling acts at festivals and corporate settings in dozens of countries, the Vice Presidential Mansion, and an appearance on The LateShow with David Letterman have led him here. Now he thinks he’s God.  His newest play, God: The One-Man Show, explores, after eons of procrastination, a Creator’s last-minute panic before Genesis. He brings elements of circus, magic, standup comedy, clown, improv, drama and existentialism to every project, and God is the newest. As a visual artist, he dropped out of University of Maryland's Art program to literally run away with the circus. He has had two solo art shows, including excerpts of his year of 365 paintings. The strength of Potter's cartoon-inspired universe captures humorous pictorial stories in a single simple yet poignant colorful image.

Artist's Statement

I like to laugh. I like to make others laugh. The longer I practice either performance or visual art, the greater my ability to attain that simplicity and elegance that is at "the soul of wit." The intent to leave the viewer, if only temporarily, to see the world in a slightly different way.
