About the Artist
Richard Niewerth attended and completed his BFA from the Maryland Institute of Art, Baltimore, Maryland in 1967. A Teaching Assistantship at the University of Maryland, College Park followed as he completed his graduate degree in 1969. After an 18 month tenure teaching at his alma mater at Baltimore City College (high school) in Baltimore, Niewerth accepted a full time teaching position at AACC in January, 1971 after teaching there on a part time basis for a year. Niewerth’s work has been extensively exhibited in one man and group shows throughout the Baltimore/Washington area as well as nationally and internationally. His work is included in numerous public and private collections.Artist's Statement
Form, light, space, color and surface are the primary elements that I employ to give form to and emotionally charge those fleeting interaction in time and space. Through visual metaphor, the viewer is empowered to participate, by overlaying their own levels of understanding and experiencing.
