Artist's Statement

My painted abstractions deal with the gesture in motion, as it translates onto a two-dimensional space. Process is a driving factor: canvas is often laid out on the floor and I paint with squeegees, brushes and sometimes a mop. Gestures are simultaneously recorded on the surface as they are physically enacted. This process becomes a dance and like dance, it involves my body and space; the result is evidence of my body’s movement, evidence of a human existence. Colors emerge as a factor that grab attention and depict energy emphasizing the gestural movements. I also pursue color to provoke the viewer’s personal reaction to the dance of forms. Embodied gestural energy interacts with color as harmonious connections are made through brushstrokes. As this process displays the dance of movement, the journey experienced represents motion in an instant in time.
