About the Artist
Self- taught Maryland based multimedia artist, Rowan McClanahan, has been sharpening his skills for the past several years. He completed a 3 year program at the Center of Applied Technology South where he specialized in carpentry and graduated from Southern Senior High school. Growing up in the small town of Shady Side, Maryland he found a way to escape the boredom and develop his artistic voice to express his concepts and ideals about not only a nation in decay, but also the common question of “what happens after death?” Rowan's work is thought provoking, and his use of materials is diverse and innovative as he develops each piece. He has received numerous awards for his work which has appeared in both private and juried exhibitions. His work is also included in several private collections in the Maryland area. Rowan currently resides in Maryland where he works out of his own studio.Artist's Statement
My art is a way to express my observations and thoughts about the state of our society and times. I explore this with my mixed media sculpture, large scale installations, and 2-dimensional artwork in a way that my words couldn't.Featured Work
