About the Artist
Ruby Bassford is a multimedia artist. They draw continuous-line caricature portraits at different festivals and also take commissions for illustrating books. Their passion is illustrating children’s literature, however, they explore narrative and identity through many art forms. Bassford has a fascination with the peculiar and works in portraiture, installation, assemblage, oil, watercolor, film, poetry, fiction, mixed-media, and photography.
Artist's Statement
Humans, themselves, are texts loaded with explicit and implicit narratives. Continuous lines connect to create the gesture of a face. The portraits capture charisma in quick sketchy snapshots of expression. Watercolor spreads the black ink, giving the portraits a fluid, blurred and blended appearance.
