About the Artist

As others may understand, I feel that I learn a great deal about life while working through challenges presented by my creative process.  I invest as much time into my artwork as possible, seeking to learn, experiment, and express.  Although there are many joyous aspects of life, I find myself most content, focused, and productive while in consistent pursuit of my art.  In addition to enjoying drawing and painting, I truly feel an irresistible desire to create in this way, and I don’t think I would quite be the same person without such as outlet.  I work mostly in graphite, colored pencil, and oil paint, in order to create realistic images inspired by the sincere beauty of nature.  While my artwork is highly internal, I seek to spark my viewers’ fascination and inspire a humbled perspective by highlighting both the seen and commonly unseen wonder of our earthly surroundings. Although a creative child, my interest in visual art, as it is now, didn’t develop until my late teens.  A sudden, personal need for art and expression sparked consistent experimentation with drawing, painting, and digital art.  Much of my earlier work was somewhat surreal in nature and incorporated an abstract use of color.  The themes of my work were vastly different in comparison to my current drawings and paintings, and were inspired by my personal experiences and struggles.  With age and time, I chose to study design and digital arts in college, hoping to incorporate my passion into a career; however, I’ve often struggled with finding joy and inspiration while creating what others want.  With the pursuit of further education, I became an art teacher working with school-age children.  Teaching art not only allows me to embrace art daily, but more importantly, it affords me the opportunity to share my love of art and encourage others in their unique artistic journeys.  Art has had and continues to have a profound impact on my life and perspective of the world. Being able to open that door for others, especially the young and impressionable, feels like an extremely worthwhile use of my time.

Artist's Statement

As an artist and soul, I have chosen to consciously perceive and recognize the beauty of my life experiences and my surroundings. For many of us, this isn’t always the easiest task; however, it is a simple one to which I have committed myself. Through my artwork, I seek to express the grace and reality of our earthly existence. While working in a realistic style allows me to highlight the raw and factual nature of my chosen subjects, my compositional choices bring focus to the delicate and charming qualities of the smallest, least alluring, or seemingly insignificant members of our planet. I aim to spark my viewers’ sense of fascination and inspire a humbled perspective through the realization of how intentionally complex our world is. When we sharpen our view, sometimes we see that the bothersome, unnoticed, or trivial details of life may at times be remarkably fruitful.
