Deep Shadow Walking
batik, hand embroidery, applique, natural dye, hand quilting
2022
Deep Shadow Walking is a hand-quilted, hand-embroidered, natural dye work that is a more recent direction to my practice. I love working with the concept of banner or flag, a presentation and an announcement of my particular tribe of person. This piece contains symbolism of fireflies, the growth of plants, the lunar cycle, mountains and volcanos as well as the pull from the earth of natural dye.
It is part of a larger installation piece whose fabrication is in progress.

Deep Shadow Walking/Liquid Earth is Mud
batik, hand embroidery, applique, natural dye, hand quilting
in prgress
Deep Shadow Walking/ Liquid Earth is Mud continuing from the above image of the banner, this continued installation work would push the banner further into an environmental piece. Currently this is a digital collage, I would need additional support to print patterned fabric, create hanging clouds and embroider onto netting to complete this work.
Fruitloop Garden of Orchids and Pattern
acrylic paint, watercolor, gouache, ink on archival paper
2020
A painted work in multiple wet mediums, acrylic, ink, gouache, and watercolor, on archival paper. Working with an array of visually collaged natural forms my painted work has come to a place where pattern, landscape, and traditional design/compositional elements merge into their own world with their own rules of gravity.

If Now had Numbers
hand embroidery, applique on pieced/sewn fabric
2018
A lot fo my current fabric stash is my grandmothers.
She was an avid quilter who taught me french knots, but did not like embroidery herself. I never did learn her quilting techniques, but I did gain a respect for the complexity of textile art and the vast array of possibilities in fiber art.
Having her fabrics left to me after her passing connects me to my art with empathy and sentimentality and honors her passing.
