About the Artist
Through the mediums of painting, writing and film-making; artist Scott Philip Goergens (S. Philip G.) has developed a highly imaginable world where creatures that live in our minds, whether whimsical or macabre, now can live among us; and the very flora of the planet can reclaim the territory from which man has taken. This world that Scott takes the observer into is one that, despite its somber tones, has the power to captivate and intrigue while allowing plenty of room for the observer to no longer be the observer and instead place their own view into the story. To give it their own beginning, middle or end. Concentrating his studies in art throughout grade and high school levels, he was awarded an art scholarship from the state of Maryland. Seeing the young artist's talent, professor and artist Olin Yoder under whom he studied, pushed him to compete for the scholarship. Having achieved an associates degree in fine art, Scott decided to continue his art career in a less formal fashion– shaping his work through his own vision– away from the arts community. During the next decade after college, Scott Philip Goergens lived in cities such as Boston and San Francisco, but it wasn't until moving back to his home town of Baltimore, Maryland did he complete his first painting series and land his first public show. Although the Among Us series began in 2001, Scott has been creating various artworks since 1988. In early 2006, he began filming an independent production, boldly probing the dark and often harrowing extremes of the adult psyche. Post-Production is ongoing and is slated for release in 2018. Residing in Baltimore, the artist is actively working on his second illustrated novel. The first children’s book, “You Are Now Leaving Torporville” was published by Vantage Press in 2004, and continues to receive praise and recognition from the arts community. In addition to writing, Scott Philip Goergens continues to paint and draw and additionally, Scott is currently a Casting Associate for Emmy award winning Pat Moran, CSA. He began working for her in 2010 and has been with her during a variety of additional nominations and awards as well as two more Emmy wins for HBO's VEEP and HBO's Game Change.Scott Goergens website View Website Scott Goergens website Purchase Art
Artist's Statement
Inspiration for my art comes from horror, children's literature, science fiction, and the occult. I have developed a highly imaginable world where creatures that live in our minds or are hidden in plain sight, whether whimsical or macabre, can be observed; and the very flora of the planet can reclaim the territory from which man has taken. Despite somber tones, the illustrations have the power to captivate and intrigue while allowing plenty of room for the observer to no longer be the observer and instead place their own view into the story. To give it their own beginning, middle or end. I regularly feature physical landmarks in Baltimore, allowing my work to be relatable, but surreal at the same time, exposing the monstrous side of humanity at times or even a pride in non-traditional beauty. My plan is to also focus on other cities in the near future.Featured Work

Melancholy Lullaby
Ink and Watercolor

This illustration features a character I created named Vassago. I wanted to show that despite his appearance, he is a gentle and kind soul.
Dessert For Chessie
Ink and Watercolor
2018
Chessie has long been Baltimores cryptozoological mascot. I love this idea and it matches with my Baltimore Monsters perfectly. I wanted to depict it with the iconic Domino Sugar factory in the background.
Watch And Wait
Ink and Watercolor

This ink and watercolor illustration features the Hotel Brexton in Mount Vernon, Baltimore. My work is inspired by my dreams and what I see around me. I highlight Baltimore with it's beautiful architecture and incorporate a variety of creatures to tell a story of what may be hidden from us. This illustration features one of the many Suvians that live in Baltimore and her name is Hildreth. She is on the lookout for trouble from the fiends from the Inmost, which lies below the surface of the planet.
