About the Artist

Scott Morrison holds a B.S. in Music from Frostburg State University with a double concentration in K-12 Music Education and Percussion Performance.  He also holds a B.A. in Scottish Gaelic: Language and Culture from Sabhal Mòr Ostaig on the Isle of Skye, which is a part of the University of Highlands and Islands system in Scotland. He worked as an elementary school band director for the Baltimore County Public School system for two years and was a drum line coach for several Howard County Public School marching bands for nearly 20 years. He has been running his own music school, “Rimshots” based in Elkridge, MD since 1994.  He has also been the Assistant Band Director/Percussion Specialist at St. Vincent Pallotti High School’s Arts Academy since its inception in 2016. Mr. Morrison appears regularly as a guest instructor, performer, and presenter (sometimes all three at once!) in area cultural organisations and artistic venues and beyond such as: The House of Musical Traditions, The School of Musical Traditions, The Folklore Society of Greater Washington’s Orpheus Workshop, The Gaelic College in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, The Appalachian Bluegrass Shoppe, Maryland Public Schools, Day of Percussion for the MD/DE chapter of PAS and most of the Celtic festivals and games in the MD, VA, and PA regions. Scott has been appearing on the D.C./Baltimore Celtic music scene on a regular basis since 2001 playing with such Celtic luminaries and bands as: Billy McComisky, Bonnie Rideout, Neil Foley, Anrew Dodds, Ben Williams, Skylark, Donna Nomick, Skylark, Big Blow and the Bushwackers, The Devil’s Tailors, and hundreds of private and public music sessions. He is co-founder, vice president, and Head Instructor/Curriculum designer for the Sgoil Gàidhlig Bhaile an Taigh Mhòir (Baltimore Scottish Gaelic School) which was established in 2015.  Mr. Morrison also sings many Gaelic songs and won the men's traditional singing contest in the US National Mòd in 2011. Mr. Morrison has also won numerous awards at previous Mòds for Gaelic poetry writing, poetry recitation, and storytelling including the coveted Argyll Cup for outstanding scholarship three times.
