Artist's Statement

As a professional dance artist, Shannon uses community-based engagement as a vehicle for artistic expression, and aims to examine the balance between artistry and accessibility. Each of the work samples provided shows a community cast of dancers that perform alongside the professional company. Each piece focused its process on working collaboratively with community members, intentionally including people of varying ages, abilities and background as instrumental voices in the work. Another key ingredient to Shannon's process is the collaboration between set, lighting, sound and projection designers, which support the balance of accessibility.
