About the Artist
Based in Silver Spring, MD near Washington, DC, Stéphane Calvin is a multidisciplinary artist with roots in Haiti and France. Stéphane’s artwork weaves her diverse cultural influences into visual narratives that explore themes of social justice, cultural alienation, and the passage of time. She employs a diverse range of media, from acrylics and watercolors to collaged paper and mixed media, finding joy and solace in a slow and tactile creative process.
Stéphane holds a Bachelor in Visual Arts from the Sorbonne University in Paris, France. As a teaching artist, Stéphane creates environments where art becomes a conduit for dialogue, reflecting the multicultural perspectives that shape her life. Since August 2023, she has served as a studio art instructor at Visarts in Rockville, MD.
Currently, Stéphane is featured in the "Soulful Panes" exhibit in Wheaton, MD, a collaborative public art showcase highlighting five Black women from the greater Silver Spring area. She recently participated in Out of Darkness, a joint exhibit at the Betty Mae Kramer Gallery in Silver Spring.
