About the Artist
A freelance photographer since 1975, Stephen McDaniel treasures nature in all its forms, from inspiring scenic vistas to close-ups of an insect’s face. In his photography, he attempts to convey emotions as well as information, whether his subject is the awesome power of a volcanic eruption or the delicate beauty of a tiny wildflower blossom. The world is in our hands now more than ever before, and we will only cherish and protect what we understand and love. Thousands of Steve's pictures have been published in calendars, magazines, and books including Newsweek, National Geographic Kids, Nature's Best, BBC Wildlife, Chesapeake Home, Harvard, Outdoor America, Hawaii, and even Beekeeping for Dummies. Steve has won awards in major competitions, including Nature’s Best and Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2002, as well as many local awards. A selection of his fine art images can be viewed on the website, mcdanielphotography.com and his editorial stock photography is displayed at stephenmcdaniel.com Always interested in nature, Steve looks for beauty in small things. Honey bees are his favorite (and most-often-published) subjects. He is a Master Beekeeper and is active in several beekeeping groups. Steve lives in Manchester, MD with his wife Angie, his helper and inspiration, where they practice “point-and-shoot” photography. She points, he shoots.STEPHEN MCDANIEL website View Website STEPHEN MCDANIEL website View Gallery STEPHEN MCDANIEL website Purchase Art
Artist's Statement
Photographing and writing about nature is our passion as well as our business. We enjoy learning about nature, from birds to bees, from clouds to caterpillars, from whales to worms, and sharing what we learn with others. It has been said that people value only what they know, and we hope that our work will in some small way help you to value and enjoy the living world around us. Maybe one of our images will make you laugh, or fill you with awe, or show you something you’ve never seen before. If so, we will have done our job.Featured Work
