About the Artist
Steven Patterson is a visual Urban Abstract Artist who draws inspiration from daily life experiences and his innate creativity to produce thought-provoking images that challenge how the world around us is perceived.
Like many gifted artists, Steven’s love for the arts and his natural talent developed at an early age. His mother recognized his artistic ability when he was just five years old. Growing up in Orlando, Florida, Steven would often come home from school with artwork so detailed that his teachers doubted it was his own. His passion for art continued to flourish, and by middle school, one of his pieces was published as a two-page spread in his local hometown art magazine. His work was later recognized by the Florida Art Education Association, earning an award in the 2011 K–12 Visual Art Digital Exhibition.
After graduating from Oak Ridge High School in Orlando, Steven attended Valencia Community College, where he earned his Associate of Arts degree. He then continued his education at the University of West Florida, receiving a Bachelor of Arts in Communications, followed by a Master’s degree in Organizational Communication from Bowie State University (BSU).
Following his graduation from BSU, Steven relocated to Louisiana for work—an experience that reignited and expanded his passion for the arts. In Fall 2019, he became a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., initiated through the Pi Pi Lambda Chapter in Slidell, Louisiana. Encouraged by his fraternity brothers, Steven founded Old Gold Fine Art to share his distinctive style and work with the brotherhood and beyond. Their encouragement inspired him to pursue his art full-time, selling his work at the French Market and on Royal Street in New Orleans. Though his time in New Orleans was brief, the experience profoundly shaped his artistic journey. He now resides in Maryland, where he continues to create and evolve as an artist.
Steven Patterson’s résumé reflects a seasoned and accomplished artist who remains grounded in the creative spirit of his youth. His work carries strong popular appeal and is admired by professional artists alike. Having been commissioned by private collectors since the age of thirteen, Steven continues to push artistic boundaries. While he incorporates various media into his art, he most often works with acrylics, finding the medium best suited to his abstract style. His strength lies in his masterful use of color, fluid line structures, and thoughtful composition—all of which evoke moments and emotions that people of all ages can connect with. Each painting, once titled, becomes a starting point for the viewer’s own journey of discovery within the artwork.
