About the Artist

A Baltimore native, Steven Xavier Lee is the author of ‘The Story of Mr. Thomas Carney - A Maryland Patriot of the American Revolutionary War’, the first book written on a heroic Maryland African American soldier of the War for Independence.  It is an allegory for adults, in the format of a storybook for youths.  The breadth of his writing includes spoken word, poetry, diverse articles in history, art, and environmental conservation.  A multi-disciplinary artist, Mr. Lee has produced works in a variety of media, including visual arts, photography, performance, and has designed & produced numerous exhibitions in the history, the arts, and the environment.  As a professor in communications design, museum studies, and history, he has taught at many of the universities and colleges in central Maryland.  As a museologist, he is the project director at The Heritage Museum in Baltimore City, and served as the founding director of the Benjamin Banneker Historical Park & Museum in Baltimore County.  Steven Xavier Lee is a graduate of Howard University in Washington D. C., and Pratt Institute, New York.
