About the Artist
Sue splits her time between Baltimore and the mountains of Western Maryland. Her subjects are mostly landscapes and water vistas taken from the Deep Creek Lake area. She finds that collage is the best way to incorporate both nuances in color and texture into the pieces.
Her technique is unusual in that she paints on sheets of different papers, then tears the paper into various shapes and reassembles them onto the canvas. By layering the colors this way, the pieces appear very different when viewed from close up. From a distance, they resemble impressionist oil or acrylic, but upon closer inspection they are intricate bits of paper and color.
