Artist's Statement
I create my artwork blending intuitive practices and playful exploration, and it’s not uncommon for me to turn a piece in many directions before I’ve found the orientation that looks and feels most pleasing to me. Working this way, I find that sticking to a focused color palette plus pops of contrasting color and line work help to provide the visual interest and tension that I’m aiming for in the piece. I’m currently working through a series that explores concepts of intersection – particularly around intersection of different line weights and shapes to form axis and segmentation. When I collage, I typically use found and/or made paper and fabric that add to overall textural depth of the pieces. I work across canvas, wood panels, and paper substrates in my artwork, and where appropriate, wrap color elements around the edges to expand the piece beyond the flat surface.
