About the Artist
I was born in Baltimore, and raised in the countryside, I've always had conflicting feelings about living in cities vs the countryside. The isolation of my childhood probably helped to foster my creativity as a child. I enjoy using my hands and my brain. I like to create objects that you can hold in your hands. I have lived in Brooklyn, NY, Glasgow and the highlands of Scotland, London, UK, Singapore and Wellington, New Zealand. I enjoy travel and learning about other cultures because I return home with a renewed sense of self and my own roots.Susan Stack website View Website Susan Stack website View Gallery Susan Stack website Purchase Art

Chicken Feet!
acrylic on wood
2018
I originally drew these Chicken Feet for a Sketchbook Project journal called 'We Sail Tonight To Singapore' all about the foods of the little red dot. I like that the placement of the feet in mid-air is subjective. Is this chicken alive and jumping around or is it dead and hanging from a hook? I chose to paint a Pepto Bismo pink background to lend some innocence and contrast to the imagery. It's also a color that I associate with an upset tummy. The Hindi word for chicken in the lower right corner gives the piece an air of exoticism and perhaps that it's a set from a children's book. I was also influenced by Indian Matchbook Box Covers.
Medico Della Peste
encaustic wax, carbon transfer and sisal on wood
2017
I created this in an encaustic wax workshop. The image is part of my Behind the Mask series on identity and perception. This ominous image is based on a common sight found during the bubonic plague in Italy. These bird masks were worn to protect doctors from being infected.
Look Into My Eyes
acrylic on wood
2018
My bucket list includes going to see an authentic Lucha Libre wrestling match. This image was painted as part of my Behind the Mask series. I incorporated themes of identity and perception with these works. Who *is* that masked man?!
