Tracy Stevens

About the Artist

Tracy is a graduate of Maryland Institute College of Art -Continuing Studies and a Baltimore native. She believes through art, we can change the culture and bring a positive viewpoint to people of all ages. Tracy is a teaching artist, graphic artist, and fine artist that uses colors, content, and beauty to make change for the better. Artist's Statement

I love nature and all its beauty. That's why I take photos and combine them graphically. I try to express what I see through painting. Art lets you do all of the above and allow people to see the world through my eyes. I believe you can take others on a voyage just by taking a photo and making it yours either by painting or graphically altering it. Art is giving yourself; opening up to others, creating something beautiful that will last throughout the years, leaving a legacy. Not being afraid to let people see you, I mean really see you. My art is expression. An expression of how I feel, who I am, and who’s a part of me. My art work is my world and I invite everyone to step into it.

This is a part of the Native Activity series. I named this one Ousted because of the way Americans treated the Native Americans. We took their land, culture and rituals then refused them the freedom of housing, refused to recognize them as a race of people and simply living. We built buildings Native Americans have no access to unless you have lighter skin.
The Neighborhood Series is a playful way of envisioning the city we call Baltimore. The artwork is inspired by the late Westminster born artist Charles Cooper. Baltimore has a rich history of music and dance. Billie, Holiday, Cab Calloway, The Numarx, Thommy Davis. and Teddy Douglas are a few notable music makers within Baltimore's past and future. Just as their music made us dance sing and do a jig, the buildings seem to do the same. The swag, dance and sing within a Downtown Baltimore area.
This is the last painting of the Black Love Series. Thesis a love series of Black and brown people. We all have masks on because we are looking for our true selves. The canvas displays words of loss, hurt, gratitude, and healing. The Black Love series came to me at a time when I was questioning what was/is love. You have to have the joy, laughter, pain and confusion to truly see love.
The graphic is from the Breakfast Series. I took a few new items and made spoofs for them it give these topics a fun, funny point of view.
Ladies in Waiting is a series that's based on a woman's patience or lack of. Honestly, we are all looking and waiting for something. Waiting for our food to get done, waiting to use the bathroom in a house full of kids, even waiting for the grocer to right up our items. It's a struggle sometimes. You can't say you never asked yourself, when will this be over.
