My work, whether it is through painting, drawing, photography, graphic design, or digital art, is an expression of my mind's ordering and seeming cohesion of the disparate visual elements in the universe to 'make sense' by using the universality of imagery to transcend language and/or cultural barriers as a more effective means of communicating to a global audience.

About the Artist

Walter Oliver Neal, has shown his work throughout the Washington Metropolitan area, and is highly regarded for the unique, creative vision and artistic excellence he brings to his work.  His artwork is in the respective collections of Howard University, the Evans-Tibbs Collection, Corcoran Gallery of Art, as well as various organizations and private collections.  A native of Detroit, Michigan, Zaidi is founder and artistic director of AMKA Graphics Studios, which he founded in 1970, while a student at his alma mater, Howard University.  He resides in Baltimore, Maryland.

This is inspired by "The Pieta" (1499), a masterpiece of Renaissance sculpture by the renowned artist Michelangelo Buonarroti, housed in St. Peter's Basilica in Vatican City. Where Michelango portrayed a youthful Madonna to symbolize her incorruptible purity, I sought to portray a black mother's painful and fearful dilemma ('Sorriness') on how to enable her black son to flourish as a man, and at the same time, ensure his safety and survival in America.
This highly stylized, 3D, conceptual rendering of 'The Middle Passage' refers to the forcible passage of African people from Africa to the New World, during the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade,

    The title, 'Cryptofacia', stands for 'Hidden Faces'. In this video I present a series of faces emerging out of a variety of media to show the viewer how remarkable the mind is in its determination to recognize the human visage no matter how extreme the mask it wears.

    The music accompanying the video 'The Chairman Dances,' a 1985 composition by John Adams, and is being used under the 'Fair Use Doctrine'--not for profit, but for educational purposes only.
