About the Artist

Will Redman is a composer, percussionist, and teacher. His music has been performed, broadcast, and written about in the U.S. and abroad. Artist's Statement

I am a composer, percussionist and improvisor. My work explores the intersection between music notation, improvisation, and technology. I compose hand-drawn scores using invented or "unsystematic" music notation. The notation extends elements of conventional Western notation in order to invite performers to interpret it creatively. I don’t provide instructions for interpretation because I would like the performers to create their own systems and interpretations of my notation. In both live and studio work I often process audio using computer software such as Max and Logic. I like that my main tools are a pen, a computer, and some drums.
