About this Organization
Amplified Change, a new nonprofit based in Frederick, MD, is responding to this crisis with purpose. Our mission is to help at-risk youth heal from trauma through the transformative power of art. We provide a safe, nurturing environment where young people can express themselves, build confidence, and connect with others through creative expression.
In Frederick County, over 50% of high school students report at least one Adverse Childhood Experience (ACE), such as abuse, neglect, or household dysfunction. These early traumas are linked to long-term mental, emotional, and physical health challenges.1 Art is a powerful tool to counteract these effects—it offers a safe, nonverbal outlet for processing emotions, reduces stress, and strengthens emotional resilience.
When practiced in a supportive environment, art also builds community. Positive relationships with caring adults and peers help youth feel seen, valued, and safe—essential ingredients for healing. Together, art and community offer both a voice and a village for at-risk youth, empowering them to move toward healthier, more hopeful futures.
