Baltimore Concert Opera

Baltimore Concert Opera creates a thrilling, meaningful shared experience between our audience and artists.  Our streamlined format focuses on the primary element of opera: the unamplified, extraordinary human voice.  Featuring top professional opera singers, piano, and projected English translations in our intimate, up-close environment, our performances make the complex operatic art form immediately accessible and engaging.

About this Organization

ABOUT US: Founded in 2009 following the demise of the former grand opera company in our beautiful city, Baltimore Concert Opera (BCO) has grown into a thriving organization today, regularly selling out performances with long waiting lists of eager attendees. Our track record of success paired with a commitment to strong organizational structure and artistic excellence set the stage for continued success and smart growth. HIGHLIGHTS: BCO is an Artist-in-Residence at the stunning Garrett-Jacobs Mansion in Baltimore’s arts district of Mount Vernon.  We strive to invigorate both our audiences and artists through a balance of classic and innovative programming. In a typical season we offer four concert operas, three audience-building highlights concerts paired with wine, beer or cocktail tastings, as well as a full complement of free outreach events.  THE BCO EXPERIENCE: Dedicated to building a culturally diverse, wider audience in our richly varied community, BCO goes beyond artistic excellence to focus also on the experience of everyone who enters our sphere from the moment they buy a ticket to the moment they leave the theater. BCO invites both long-time opera enthusiasts and future opera fans to revel in the timeless music and stories of opera that bring us all together. Inspired by the beauty of our historic home venue and legendary music from across the centuries, we achieve our ultimate goal: our patrons and artists leave entertained, moved, and enriched. GOALS & PARTNERSHIPS: BCO’s primary goal is to build and sustain opera audiences not only for us, but for opera companies everywhere. By building our own audiences and regularly engaging in artistic and community collaborations, we endeavor to build new audiences for opera at large.  Recognizing the importance of artistic partnerships as a means of engagement with the larger opera community, BCO often co-produces operas with OperaDelaware and Opera Southwest. In the coming years, we will deepen our partnership with OperaDelaware as we collaborate with them to add fully-staged opera productions to BCO’s programming beginning in the 2021-2022 season.  This marks an important growth point for BCO as we make a long-term commitment to creating an operatic center for the Greater Baltimore community for years to come.
