Classes are designed to find or re-gain the joy of movement and to deepen in our movement practice. The Duncan technique is accessible and very effective in helping us to integrate life into our dance and dance into our life. It is an excellent dance foundation that will complement all dance styles. Students learn the use of breath as the initiation of movement, expression of emotion through movement, and choreographic studies derived from the authentic dances of Isadora Duncan. We build cardiovascular strength and increase flexibility through our floor work, barre, and locomotor motifs.

In this class we explore how dances are created.  We do this via discussion, experimentation, improvisation, viewing existing choreography, and our own creative voices in choreography.  We use our self-crafted dances as structures for our expressiveness and dance excellence.  Choreographic studies are shared informally at the end of each semester. 

Word Dance Theater pays homage to Isadora Duncan’s technique, philosophy and revolutionary spirit, pushing the performing arts to new limits. Word Dance Theater brings together some of the best artistic minds in dance, theater, music, and production to create cross-disciplinary works that test the creative boundaries for artists, tells stories of the human spirit, and creates new experiences for audiences.  Mainstage productions are appropriate for any size theater. Salons are a wonderful opportunity to experience live performances by Word Dance Theater's dancers, musicians, poets, playwrights, and actors in charming and informal settings. Designed for audiences of 100 people or less, Word Dance Theater Salons include a performance along with a post-performance question-and-answer session. This format gives audience members an opportunity to ask questions and visit with the artists in a more intimate environment. Salons can be performed in venues such as museums, embassies and even private homes. Each salon is customized and curated for the space in which it is presented.
