Lucy School

Lucy School is an independent, arts-based school serving children ages three through eighth grade. Rooted in a joyful, student-centered approach, our program integrates drama, dance, music, visual arts, and creative movement into a rigorous academic curriculum that nurtures creativity, critical thinking, and a lifelong love of learning. Set on a 17-acre farm campus, we emphasize environmental stewardship, hands-on exploration, and meaningful connections to nature. At Lucy School, we honor the whole child—intellectually, emotionally, socially, and physically—while cultivating a community grounded in respect, empathy, and wonder

About this Organization

Lucy School is an independent, arts-based school serving children ages three through eighth grade. As a mission-driven institution, we offer a student-centered program that places the arts at the heart of learning. Through the integration of drama, creative movement, dance, music, and visual arts into every aspect of the curriculum, we create rich, immersive learning experiences that support the intellectual, emotional, physical, social, aesthetic, and creative development of each child. Our independence allows us to remain deeply responsive to the needs of our students and community, fostering an environment where imagination, inquiry, and expression thrive. At Lucy School, the arts are not an add-on—they are a vital way of thinking, learning, and growing.

Services/Opportunities

Lucy School regularly hosts guest artists from diverse disciplines—dance, theatre, music, visual arts, and storytelling—who work directly with students and faculty. These residencies provide immersive, process-focused experiences that deepen learning, spark creativity, and align with thematic units across grade levels. Past collaborators have included renowned performers, cultural ambassadors, and teaching artists who enrich our curriculum through both performance and participatory workshops.

We provide ongoing professional development for educators both internally and through regional partnerships. Our training focuses on integrating the arts into core academic subjects, process drama strategies, student-centered assessment, and fostering inclusive, imaginative learning environments. Teachers are empowered to view themselves as creative facilitators and curriculum designers.

Lucy School serves as a mentor site for emerging educators and student teachers interested in arts integration and child-centered learning. We offer hands-on mentorship in progressive pedagogy, classroom management through restorative practices, and curriculum development that honors both academic rigor and artistic exploration. Many of our mentor teachers are experienced arts educators with cross-disciplinary expertise.

As an independent school with deep roots in the arts, Lucy School provides a living example of how the creative process can be at the heart of a whole-child approach to education. Visitors, interns, and professional colleagues often observe our classrooms to see arts integration in action and to reflect on its impact in both early childhood and elementary/middle school settings.

We create opportunities for teachers, artists, and students to co-construct learning experiences. Whether through team-taught lessons, interdisciplinary projects, or shared exhibitions and performances, collaboration is embedded in the school’s culture—making Lucy School a dynamic learning lab for innovative arts-based practice.
