About this Organization
The Water’s Edge Museum, which is volunteer-run and open free to the public, focuses on bringing school children through the door for an empowering session with tours led by members of America’s Founding Black Families. The Water’s Edge is working on 3 projects, all of which require funding. They are 1. Education, 2. The Maryland Spirituals Initiative, and 3. The Middle Passage Ceremony and Marker Initiative
A virtual opening on 1 February to honor Black History Month. The actual opening was on 6 March. In spite of the fact that the Water’s Edge was open only 6 weeks ago, the organization has received the following accolades:
Official US Congressional Citation from Senator Chris Van Hollen, congratulating the Water’s Edge on its work in celebrating the Founding Black Families of America
Governor Hogan’s Black History Month award for Service and Volunteerism
Official Maryland Senatorial Citations from Senator Adelaide Eckardt for work in honoring the Founding Black Families of Maryland
Final stages of approval from UNESCO Paris for a Middle Passage marker documenting the enslaved Africans who arrived in Oxford. This is the only known Middle Passage site on the Eastern Shore of Virginia, Maryland, and Delaware
