WombWork Productions' mission is to heal and empower youth, their families and communities, while preserving cultural legacies through the performing arts.
About this Organization
WombWork Productions, Inc. was founded in 1997 by three Black women – Kay Lawal-Muhammad, Rashida Forman-Bey, and Nataska “Walks on Water” Hummingbird – who as artists and mothers established a space to address the dearth of creative outlets for their children and Baltimore youth. To this day, WombWork’s primary constituency remains youth ages 5-18, and secondarily young adults ages 19 and older. WombWork Productions primarily operates in Central Maryland, specifically Baltimore City. Additionally, our service area includes Baltimore County, Anne Arundel County, Howard County, Prince George’s County, Montgomery County, and the Eastern Shore. Occasionally, WombWork provides services in Washington, D.C., and Pennsylvania. Because of the organization’s location in Baltimore, Maryland, the sociodemographics of youth served are primarily Black but also include White, Latinx, and Indigenous youth. The communal orientation of WombWork encourages the active support of youth’s families and communities, which allows the organization to serve and collaborate with people reflecting many racial, cultural, economic, faith, and sexual orientation backgrounds.Services/Opportunities
