Downtown Tumbao 2023 Performances
This video captures a few of the many performances from 2023.
Downtown Tumbao, Chilango Jazz from Mexico City, accompanies rhythms of Cha cha chá, guaracha, son, samba and more with rich Jazz harmonies. The band combines rising talent of the DMV with seasoned skill, experimenting at the crosswords of new and perennial themes. The sextet grooves with vocals, sax, keyboard, bass guitar, percussion and drums and spotlights high energy, rich, driving tumbaos and sultry vocals. Our band’s mission is to spotlight traditional music of Latin America to preserve and reclaim it in an act of restoration and revival.
Seaglass by Olga Amelkina-Vera
Atlantic Guitar Quartet: Mark Edwards, James Keretses, Matthew Slotkin, Zoë Johnstone Stewart.
Seaglass was commissioned by the Lazaretto Guitar Quartet
Video editing by Jeff Francis. Special thanks to Tom Chandler, Brigid Guertin and the Danbury Museum.
Notes from the composer:
"The title was meant to invoke the colorful and delicate pieces of glass smoothed and frosted by the ocean over decades and centuries, turned by nature into gems. The more dissonant sections are reminiscent of the sharp-edged pieces of glass before the ocean polishes them; you might also hear glints of reflected sunlight in the harmonics used throughout the piece. The comforting roll of the waves inspired the ostinato patterns that return again and again"

I'm an aspiring artist breaking out of tech, where I was grossly overworked and underpaid, and stepping into my creative talents. I play piano, sing, draw, paint, write and work with AI. Currently looking into sound engineering and DJing.
