illegible ink
The name behind my work (illegible ink) emerged from a fourth grade experience. When learning cursive, my teacher gave me a C+ on my report card, noting that I was “taking liberties with her cursive, making it too creative and therefore, illegible.” Years later that creativity remains thankfully intact and proves that one teacher’s “illegible” liberty-taking is very much a creative gain!

Ollie L. Jefferson (Ph.D., Howard University) brings to life the dramatic depiction of HERstory.

Dr. Ollie L. Jefferson is a teacher-scholar/artist who creatively expresses her life lessons by authentically portraying over a dozen characters through original storytelling. This coming-of-age memoir sets the stage with her voice as a teenager entering into womanhood — the period when the mind initiates actions causing life-changing decisions. It is a timeless true story of a first-generation college student full of dreams and on her way toward reality. Her transparent testimony reveals deep-rooted past struggles with faith, relationships, and destiny.

Time Will Tell: Stage Intro presents excerpts from the opening chapters of the Timeless Visual Works book series — Time Will Tell: Stage I, II, and III by Dr. Ollie L. Jefferson. The trilogy explores lived experiences and connects this autoethnography and autobiographical story to broader cultural, social meaning, and understanding. Dr. Jefferson directed and produced live performances of the award-winning adaptation from page to stage at theaters such as the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. This inspiring narrative of building resilience engages audiences while bringing cultural awareness and sensitivity to HERstory.
