Laura Silverman is a visual artist from Owings Mills, Maryland. She has been painting and drawing for over 10 years, and just received her Master of Fine Arts in Painting from the American College of the Mediterranean in Aix-en-Provence, France. She graduated from Temple University in Philadelphia, and received her Bachelor of Science in Education, majoring in Art Education.

I view all art as symbols - the meaning of which is as unique as each viewer. Facial expressions are a very powerful form of communication - sometimes even more powerful than words. For this reason, expressive portrait drawings and paintings are my favorite form of art.

My painting experience was guided by my middle school art teacher Shirley Brannock. Mrs. Brannock helped me get involved with the Dorchester Center for the Arts when it first opened. I was one of the youngest oil painters who learned to love the magic of a paint brush. Thanks to her, I received a high school scholarship and met other artists, their mediums and it allowed me to expand my horizons. Sculpture, carving, silversmithing, and glass work. I have recently taken up watercolors and enjoy the challenge of painting with less paint and the movement of the water.
