Her artistic abilities were recognized early and as she became of age, her aspirations were to pursue a career as an artist. Liza Hathaway Matthews is a contemporary abstract artist and textile designer who lives in Baltimore, Maryland with her husband and three children. She attended the Maryland Institute, College of Art with a major in Interior Design and a minor in Painting. Her pieces radiate a contrast of luminous color, graceful form, and texture, her creations are inspired from nature, interior and garden design and pattern. Harmony and movement are evident in her work. Liza’s mediums range from oil and acrylic paint, ink, charcoal and pen.
Dr. Diana Baird N’Diaye is a multidisciplinary artist, folklife researcher, curator and transcontinental arts advocate who combines decades of experience both as a researcher and curator of African and African diaspora expressive culture. She considers her teaching as a vital aspect of her participatory art practice. N’Diaye’s art training began with sewing and needlework instruction from her Caribbean great aunts; In high school she became a student of African American couturiere Zelda Wynn Valdes, and worked as a mender in her mother’s dry cleaning store.
Untethered
"Untethered" is a sound and image installation and collaboration with Mitch Maltese. Still images from the "Threshold" series are utilized and the disappearing visual information is replaced with sound. Using low frequencies, reverberations and higher pitched tones, the aim is to influence the viewer's sensory response to the images.
