Ecomimesis
Ecomimesis is a site-specific, virtual reality (VR) environment containing animated virtual plants that allows viewers to have an intimate encounter with plants in an accelerated life-cycle. The project is designed to be customized for the venue in which it is shown so the architecture of the space is represented within the animation. The species featured is Conyza canadensis, a common urban ‘weed’ chosen for its prevalence in human crafted landscapes that is at same time often 'invisible' to most people as they choose to ignore such so-called nuisance species.

Night Walk 2
This is a realtime software artwork that generates randomly-combined vignettes. It links to other software objects via a server. It plays on an endless loop via a computer that I would provide.
Layers of hand-drawn images taken from my own photography and images of extinct and living animal and plant species are given chance combinations via autonomous software. The environments created in these vignettes are unpredictable, sometimes chaotic, and the human and non-human animal figures are often overwhelmed by the landscape.

"Your Final Meditation: Level IX" *Work in Progress
You are a bug. You are born. You live. You die.
A guided meditation from the perspective of a cicada. Level IX of a fictional video game titled: “Your Final Meditation.”
A Baltimore backyard in the Summer of 2021. Thousands of Brood X Cicadas emerge after 17 years underground. An AI voiceover guides the viewer through the final days of the bugs as the nymphs emerge from the ground, molt, mate, and die. Using the life cycle of the Brood X Cicadas to explore new models of identity, mindfulness, and self-transformation in an era of global isolation and adaptation.
Filmed with vintage 16mm probe lenses designed for extremely close photography and working with a commercial production crew, the film echoes the visual aesthetics of nature documentaries like “Planet Earth” & “Microcosmos” while subverting the traditional treatment in favor of a more psychedelic new age approach echoing Croenberg’s “eXistenZ” and Marker’s “Level Five.”
Sound design recorded in collaboration with avant garde Berlin based composer Max Eilbacher using speciality microphones designed for recording extremely close sounds and vibrations inaudible to the human ear.
This film is a part of a larger series set inside the fictional guided meditation VR video game: “Your Final Meditation.” The project, presented as a series of 12 levels, explores the body’s relationship to the camera, our virtual selves, and the metaverse.

In this Podcast, Baltimore Youth Film Arts fellows Rejjia Camphor, Edward Lowe, and Kham Owens worked with instructor Lukas MacKinney to create episodes for the ongoing podcast Inside Stories: Perspectives on Incarceration. The multi-episode series features personal accounts from the formerly incarcerated collected in prior workshops, and shares publicly this important and too often hidden aspect of the American experience. Original accounts are available on video and in MP3s on the BYFA website here: https://www.filmartsbaltimore.org/inside-stories
