Heather M is a feminist, artist, and author as well as the principal voice behind the Femme Project, an art effort addressing themes of identity, sex and sexuality and equality. After carving out a notable career as a creative director and marketing consultant, she walked away from the corporate world in 2014 to start the Femme Project with the intent of creating art with a purpose. Since then, the work of the Femme Project has driven awareness and action surrounding women’s issues through visual mediums, film, writing, and social engagement.

ARTIST • PROFESSOR • FARMER
The digital process is integral throughout my creative process.
I am Artist and Visual Designer living in Baltimore, Maryland. I am a member of the Visual Arts Faculty
and the Exhibitions Educator (Curator) at The Park School of Baltimore.
My photographic constructions reference the natural world in an effort to consider the transitory essence of being, and to confront my own sense of existential dread. I find comfort in the ephemeral cycle of Nature, and hope to convey tranquility and solitude through these compositions.
departure (excerpt)
departure | 2020 | 16mm dual projection performance | handmade cyanotype 16mm film
"departure" incorporates the alternative 19th C. cyanotype process with my passion for 16mm film and darkroom experimentation. The images captured are of my mother and sister, with audio recordings of conversations with my late grandmother, Margaret. This piece is a continuation of the portraits of the beautiful women in my family.
16mm cyanotype film loops are projected in a dual projection system, incorporating contact mic, synthesizer, and voice recordings.
