The Walters Art Museum is a cultural hub in the heart of Baltimore, located in the city’s Mount Vernon neighborhood. The museum’s collection spans more than seven millennia, from 5000 BCE to the 21st century, and encompasses 36,000 objects from around the world. Founded in 1980 and governed by resolutions that make it different from other city schools, the BSA admits students to its high school through highly selective auditions in dance, film, music, stage design and production, theatre, and visual arts.
Galerie Myrtis (GM) is an emerging blue-chip gallery and art advisory specializing in twentieth and twenty-first-century American art with a focus on work created by African American artists. The gallery opened its doors in 2006 to utilize the visual arts to raise awareness for artists who deserve recognition for their contributions in artistically portraying our cultural, social, historical, and political landscapes; and to recognize art movements that paved the way for freedom of artistic expression.
For over a century, the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO) has been recognized as one of America’s leading orchestras and one of Maryland’s most significant cultural institutions.
Founded in 1916 as a branch of the Baltimore City municipal government, the BSO reorganized as a private institution in 1942. We remain the first and only American orchestra with year-round venues in two distinct metropolitan areas, both specifically designed with the BSO in mind (The Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall in Baltimore City and The Music Center at Strathmore in North Bethesda, Montgomery County).
Baltimore Clayworks is a community-centered ceramics institution in the Mt. Washington neighborhood of Baltimore, Maryland. Our organization was founded by nine artists in 1980 and in 1984 received its nonprofit 501(c)3 status. We are known for our attentiveness to our city, and possess a national and international reputation for artistic excellence, artists’ support, and community involvement.
Aditya Desai is a writer, teacher, and activist in Baltimore. His stories and essays have appeared in in B O D Y, Barrelhouse Magazine, The Rumpus, The Millions, The Margins, District Lit, The Kartika Review, The Aerogram, and others. He received his MFA in fiction from the University of Maryland, College Park.
Gregory Thompkins performs and resides in Baltimore, Maryland. He is an early jazz and commercial music graduate of Towson University, receiving his Bachelor of Science in 1989. In his 30-plus year music career, he has performed with All Mighty Senators, Lafayette Gilchrist, David Murray, George Garzone, Dave Ballou, Michael Formanek, and many others.
